Still can’t believe I’m a 10-year vet in the photo game!
I’ve been doing this here photography thing since October 2013. That’s when I first quit my very safe corporate Hotel Director of Sales job, on a wing and a prayer. I had no idea where I was going to end up but I knew what I wasn’t going to do was work for someone else for the rest of my life. I worked a part-time night job while I grew my photography business, and it took time, like anything does. But one day as I stood at my little hostess stand in my restaurant on a Saturday evening waiting for the next guest to come through the door, it freakin’ dawned on me: I’m actually losing money being here! I hadn’t noticed, but my sales had finally surpassed my little part-time paychecks, so what was I still doing there?! I quit, despite the pleading from my manager (second time that happened, the first was when I quit my corporate job. I gotta great work ethic, what can I say?) and then just a few months later I surpassed my old corporate salary too.
There’s highs and lows in running your own business, I am never going to tell you that there aren’t. But if you stay focused, and invest in yourself where it matters most, you will get to exactly where you want to go. Trust me! I’ve worked with soooooo many bosses, I’ve shot a million weddings, I’ve been in People Magazine, I’ve photographed Meghan Markle, I’ve traveled the world, lived a bi-coastal life, and I get to do things people only dare to dream.
Not telling you this to brag, I’m telling you this to show you what happens when you take the steps that seem too scary. I am the poster child for “Feel the fear and do it anyway”. I will head into the unknown like no ones business and to be honest, confidence is half the business battle, my love. I’d rather see what’s on the other side than to wonder what could have or should have been. I’ve made the mistakes, I’ve started from the bottom, I’ve cried the tears and I’ve recited my “I quit for real this time” speech a million times. But this is it. THIS is your moment. And you deserve it. You deserve to be a 7-figure boss, to be a big fish in a small pond, to travel the world, to make a name for yourself, to be the best version of yourself. You deserve it all!
